About the field of study

The aim of the second-cycle Urban Planning field of study is to prepare graduates for independent analytical work and creative work in the field of shaping the urban environment and responsible space management taking into account the conditions of the existing state and individual social needs. The specificity of the master's degree is the active participation of students in research and development projects.

The interdisciplinary nature of the studies aimed at providing students with broad theoretical knowledge and practical professional skills makes our graduates not only good specialists who use their talent and acquired skills at work, but also broad-minded people who are aware of the social mission of their profession, whose competencies (hard and soft) enable them to adapt flexibly to the changing needs of the market. As part of the educational process, students have the opportunity to use modern didactic methods, and can participate in laboratories, classes and project practices, seminars and workshops of national and international scope. In addition, they have the opportunity to complete part of their studies in foreign universities under the "Erasmus +" program, which increases the possibility of active competition in the labor market in Poland and Europe.

About you

In the Middle Ages, the establishment of a city was decided by the king, who issued a charter of incorporation, defining the layout of the city, for example under Magdeburg or Lübeck law. However, the beginnings of urban planning in the Polish state date back to the Congress Kingdom, when the first factories began to appear and industry developed In 1828, a decree of the President of the Republic of Poland on the building law and development of the estate was published — at that time, for example, Aleksandłów Łódzki was created. Nowadays, all you need for conscious urban planning is intuition, creativity and... second-cycle studies!

Studying Urban Planning, you will acquire the ability to design cities in the context of sustainable development, territorial competitiveness, adaptation to climate change, changing technical capabilities, as well as the principles of spatial management, protection of cultural heritage and complex processes of revitalization. You will learn how to prepare planning documents of great complexity (including general and local development plans and revitalization plans). You will also gain competence in preparing forecasting and study documents of a coordinating and strategic nature for carrying out comprehensive spatial development policies in cities, municipalities, as well as at the regional and national levels. Knowledge and skills in identifying and solving relevant functional and spatial problems, will ensure that you are well prepared for independent positions in both the public and private sectors. You will be able to undertake collaboration with specialists in other technical, social, economic and natural science fields.
