About the field of study

The master's degree in Intelligent Building Control Systems was created in response to the development of technology and advanced algorithms such as AI (Artificial Intelligence) and the growing needs of the labor market for specialists in the field of modern and energy-efficient intelligent construction solutions. On the one hand, it is a natural continuation of first-cycle studies, deepening knowledge and skills and expanding competences in the field of building technologies, electro-automatics, control and management systems and renewable energy sources. On the other hand, it is a field of study full of practical knowledge of interdisciplinary and fully integrated solutions designed for the triple transformation of cities: ecological, digital and social. Thanks to experienced staff, the study program is designed utilitarian - it allows students to develop practical skills in the design and programming of BMS (Building Management System) and BACS (Building Automation And Control Systems), energy monitoring and management (EMS - Energy Management System), as well as process modeling and integration of various teletechnical installations. Students learn to design safe and energy-efficient buildings and create supervisory algorithms aimed at ensuring the comfort of users in accordance with the principles of sustainable development and zero-emission. They will also learn about building power systems, teletechnical systems, renewable energy technologies, heating, cooling and electricity, systems integrated into the building, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) and lighting systems. They provide an optimal indoor microclimate, which has a significant impact on the state of human health and the possibilities of its regeneration. They will also learn about the EPBD (Energy Performance of Buildings Directive), energy and environmental auditing, implementation of PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), HMI (Human-Machine Interface), IoT (Internet of Things). They gain the necessary knowledge about interoperability and data aggregation, network communication, wiring and teletechnical solutions. Thanks to this, students will gain knowledge of an international scope, enabling them to work in a highly specialized industry of systems for intelligent buildings. The study program also covers very important issues related to securing the appropriate response of systems and services in buildings in the event of a failure or serious malfunction of teletechnical systems and issues of responsibility for technical maintenance of technical equipment and systems of the facility.

About you

This field of study is a proposal for people who want to focus their knowledge on the issues of advanced technologies and systems used in modern construction, deepen technical knowledge and develop practical skills. If you are interested in how to design systems that supervise ecological buildings, how to collect data and manage energy, how to create solutions for the cities of the future – this is the field of study for you!

During your studies, you will learn about the elements of Facility Management, i.e. the management of the scope of basic services related to the technical maintenance of buildings. You will learn how to carry out technical inspections and inspections, how to analyze defects and the technical condition of the facility, how to create building maintenance plans and basic investments.

These are studies for those who want to not only implement innovative solutions, but also create them. The interdisciplinary nature of the course makes it possible to deepen knowledge in the field of electrical engineering, automation, applied computer science and energy efficiency in construction and environmental engineering.
During your studies, you will not only learn about the latest solutions used in building automation, but also learn how to design, program, apply and integrate them into a physical object. You will learn to use digital twin mapping in virtual space to process data for the purposes of, for example, "Forward Chaining" or forecasting energy use. You will learn how to analyze basic information about the building, how to monitor energy consumption, how to implement renewable energy sources, as well as how to prepare and carry out energy audits. You will develop cooperation skills in interdisciplinary teams and lead your own technology transfer projects using modern working methods such as PBL (Project Based Learning or Problem Based Learning, depending on the context), Flipped Education or Design Thinking. Your competencies will respond to the real needs of the market – both local and international.
