The aim of the education in this field is to prepare the future engineer to design, construct, and maintain systems and installations: heating, water supply, sewerage, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, gas and water, wastewater and air treatment systems, as well as waste management systems and facilities.
In particular, the student learns the knowledge and skills in the following areas:
advanced solutions used in building systems to ensure the safety of buildings and the comfort of their users, including the use of renewable energy sources,
new technologies used in environmental protection, especially water and air,
sustainable water supply, wastewater treatment, waste disposal, and district heating systems,
computer-aided design of building systems and networks (SWMM, EPANET, AutoCAD, Arcadia-Start, Arcadia-InteliCAD, QGIS, Auditor OZC and CO, Instaltherm HCR and OZC, Arcadia-Thermo, NormaPRO), and Building Information Modeling (Arcadia-BIM).
With regard to the above, students also learn practical skills through a number of projects, engineering studies and measurements carried out in the laboratory and/or in the field, as well as through study visits and traineeship at specialized enterprises and municipal facilities. They also carry out projects and studies in cooperation with students of architecture and civil engineering, e.g. with PBL (Problem Based Learning) methods, which allows them to get practical training before the implementation of design and investment tasks in their future professional work.
Linking this degree program with civil engineering, architecture, and spatial planning allowed the designers of the program curriculum to distinguish it from similar degree programs offered by other higher education institutions.
Graduates are qualified to design, construct, and maintain environmental protection systems and installations in buildings and settlements, including technical infrastructure. During the course of studies, students learn the skills required to solve technical and technological problems and to take economic and organizational decisions.
Completion of this degree program is a precondition for applying for professional license in the field of heating, ventilation, gas, water supply and sewerage systems and equipment as well as to perform independent technical functions in the civil engineering sector of an unlimited and limited scope in the management of construction works, and of a limited scope, in their design.
The qualifications enable graduates to work for design offices, build, maintain, and operate contractors, municipal services, state and local government administration agencies, and specialized manufacturing and commercial enterprises, etc. They also provide a foundation for the formation and development of individual entrepreneurship.
