During the studies, student are provided with knowledge of core courses which include courses related to mechanical engineering such as technical mechanics, manufacturing techniques, mechanism theory, strength of materials, fundamentals of construction. The curriculum also includes courses which provide students with the basics required of all engineers: engineering graphics, computer science, information technology, metrology, electrical engineering, automatic control and electronics. Further into the programme, the curriculum provides for field-specific courses: transport infrastructure, traffic engineering, transport modalities engineering for road and rail transport, transport systems and processes and automatic control for transport. Students are familiarized with topics in logistics, organization and management, cost analysis, economics and transport law. The field-specific courses include content related to the field of mechanical engineering such as internal combustion engines, hydrokinetic and hydrostatic drives; as well as content related to the field of electrical engineering: introduction to drives, power electronics and electric traction.
Students learn practical skills at the laboratories of the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. They further enhance their skills during their placements which they complete at organizations involved in modern transport.
Specialists with a degree in transport can be an asset for any branch of the economy where movement of goods and people occurs. They are prepared to work at organizations dealing with operation of vehicles, design and construction firms and research and science institutes. Graduates are qualified to solve different, frequently interdisciplinary, problems related to logistics and transport economics, analysis and design of transport systems, operation of technical equipment and traffic engineering - all with reference to road and rail transport.
