Chemistry of building materials  has a special place at the interface of chemistry, technology, materials engineering and civil engineering. It falls within a specific - yet very well-defined by industry – area which includes design, modification, production and analysis of chemical products used in construction industry. Representatives of the Polish  industry of building materials report a demand for engineers with qualifications in the area of composition and analysis of building materials, processing and design of finished goods who, at the same time, are  knowledgeable about their attestation and certification. The principal objective of education is to prepare students for work in the area that combines chemistry, technology, materials engineering and civil engineering. Students learn to use synthesized knowledge in the disciplines referred to above, apply it in practice, especially with regard to design, modification, manufacturing and analysis of chemical products used in construction industry. Moreover, they learn about attestation and certification of finished goods, their recycling and utilization.

Graduate profile: 

Graduates have basic knowledge in the areas of technical, chemical, technological and materials engineering sciences as well as technical and industrial analysis. They know technologies of manufacturing and processing and methods of modification of ceramic, polymer, metallic and composite materials, both engineering and functional, used in construction industry and technologies of manufacturing and recycling of finished good. They can design materials and select materials to fit a given purpose; they are knowledgeable about materials research methods, attestation and certification of products. Graduates know basic issues of environment protection and are able to use the principle of sustainable development in their activities. They are prepared to use specialized software and computer databases. They have basic knowledge of management, including human resources management, in industry. The knowledge and practical qualifications determine their career choices in industrial companies manufacturing products for construction industry and in research and development sector of construction industry. 

Graduates with a degree in Chemistry of building materials have a command of the English language at the B2 level of The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and have the ability to use English for special purposes in their field of study. They are able to apply their knowledge in professional practice while adhering to legal and ethical principles.
